Flipping rise over run: the SAT slope inversion
Given (2, 3) and (6, 11), slope = (6−2)/(11−3) = 1/2 — inverted. The right answer, 2, is also in the choices. That's not an accident.
Why it happens
"Rise over run" is verbal, not visual. When both differences are computed, nothing forces the y-difference into the numerator.

Find the slope through (2, 3) and (6, 11).
✗ The trap: (6 − 2)/(11 − 3) = 4/8 = 1/2.
✓ The fix: (11 − 3)/(6 − 2) = 8/4 = 2.
How to actually fix it
- Write the formula with letters first: m = (y₂ − y₁)/(x₂ − x₁).
- Label the points before subtracting anything.
- Gut-check with the graph: steeper than 45° means |m| > 1.
